Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area situated in the West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" place. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive region that runs from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. But this is not true. Brugel grew on Courtice just outside Oshawa in Ontario. The first goal she had was to become a dancer, however a rapid growth rate meant that she literally outgrew the dancers she was with. In an article that was published in the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. After I surpassed my male counterparts, that's when I gave up. Former dancers often turn to acting, and in the instance of Brugel,, it was a suggestion from her high school drama teacher. Her teacher invited her to try out for roles in a school production. The teacher who suggested she pursue a part the annual school production. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program which she graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions on both small and large screens, attracting the greatest interest when she was offered the part as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian part of the cast in the season 1 of the series, and not seen much.
